Carinthia
.......................... Austria’s Riviera
Carinthia is one of Austria’s most beautiful regions, and yet still
remains largely undiscovered beyond Austria itself.
It is an area of
outstanding natural beauty, of crystal blue lakes and mountain peaks offering
the opportunity for a huge variety of sports and leisure activities all year
round.
Clustered around the shores
of the Wörthersee (Lake
Wörth ) you will find many beautiful towns and
villages. Velden is in the south of the
region, near to the borders of Italy
and Slovenia.
This is a truly cosmopolitan town, enjoying an almost Mediterranean climate,
with Summer temperatures up to 27C which is ideal for bathing. Influenced by its continental neighbours,
Velden offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants, superb shopping and
sophisticated nightlife. There is
something for everyone, spectacular walking and cycle routes , and equally
spectacular cafes offering such delicacies as Linzertort , Strudel ,continental
patisserie and of course superb Austrian coffee.
Whatever time of year you
decide to visit, you will find a host of activities to enjoy. The famous Velden Christmas market, the Gerlitze skiing slope, the international
casino and Velden Castle which is currently
undergoing transformation into exclusive luxury apartments.
There are frequent ferry
services to enable you to stop off at some of the pretty lakeside villages and
the town of Klagenfurt,
which offers superb shopping, sightseeing.
Carinthia has such a lot to offer
whilst still remaining amazingly
unspoilt and just that little bit special.
